I'm generally not a fan of straddling as it is a -EV play overall, but there are two times when I believe it can be argued to be okay. One is when everyone is doing it, therefore it becomes a neutral play overall. The other is when it is keeping a fish in the game that wants to gamble and play for more, which is usually going to be good for you if you do feel you have a nice skill edge postflop. Just keep in mind that the straddle shrink stacks and starting hand requirements will change a little with you usually needing to tighten up a little.
